Bassem Eid
Bassem is an internationally acclaimed political analyst, human rights pioneer and expert commentator on Arab and Palestinian affairs. He was born in the Jordanian-occupied Old City in eastern Jerusalem and raised in the UNRWA refugee camp of Shuafat. Bassem rose to prominence during the First Intifada (violent uprising) for condemning Palestinian human rights abuses committed by Palestinian leadership. His outspoken passion for his people and tireless effort to reveal human rights violations committed by the Palestinian Authority resulted in persecution and imprisonment.
Bassem is the founder of the Jerusalem-based Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group and chairman of the Center for Near East Policy Research. He has devoted 26 years to researching UNRWA policies and advocates extensively on UNRWA reform. He is also an ardent critic of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement
Bassem is famous for sharing his insider’s perspective with scathing realism, honesty and humor. He continues to work tirelessly for the dignity for his people and peace with his neighbors.
